DENVER, CO, December 06, 2017 — Lawrence Hergott has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Dr. Hergott served as a professor of medicine in the division of cardiology at the University of Colorado for many years, and is currently an emeritus professor of medicine and a senior scholar in creative writing at the Center for Bioethics and Humanities, affiliated with the university's School of Medicine. During the course of his career, he has also lent his far-ranging medical expertise to Kaiser Permanente as an outpatient cardiology consultant.
Dr. Hergott holds an MD from the University of Minnesota, which he earned in 1971. He completed a residency in internal medicine and a cardiology fellowship through the University of California, Davis, and became board certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular medicine. He has also volunteered for the County Hospital of Denver, and for the cause of reduction of gun violence. Dr. Hergott is the eponym and winner of The Hergott Heart of Medicine Award at the University of Colorado as well as the Lawrence Hergott Award in Writing, sponsored by Southern Methodist University and the Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, Texas. He is also a fellow of the American College of Cardiology.
As an accomplished wordsmith, Dr. Hergott won the 2015 Annals Poetry Prize from the American College of Physicians. His works also include philosophical essays on how a medical practitioner and their loved ones can navigate a life in medicine. As a matter of course, Dr. Hergott enjoys spending his free time with family, as well as with music, writing, swimming, and gardening.
