NJ web design company Lform Design is launching a scholarship program for young women pursuing a career in computer science or engineering. This annual $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to one rising

“According to the nonprofit, Girls Who Code, less than 25 percent of computer scientists are female,” said Lform Design Owner and Creative Director Ian Loew.

MONTCLAIR, N.J.

With Martin Luther King Jr. Day declared a national day of action, Lform Design (http://www.lform.com) a full-service digital agency specializing in web design, app development, corporate branding, and digital marketing—is officially announcing a scholarship program for young women pursuing a career in computer science or engineering. This annual $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to one rising or currently enrolled female college student.

“According to the nonprofit, Girls Who Code, less than 25 percent of computer scientists are female,” said Lform Design Owner and Creative Director Ian Loew. “To help close the industry’s gender gap, we’ve created an annual scholarship to encourage more female coders and computer scientists to follow this career path and join the computing workforce.”

Loew acknowledged his own company’s lack of gender diversity.

“As an NJ-based web design company specializing in custom web and app development, we are well-aware that there is only one female in our office,” Loew said. We see first-hand how web design and development is a male-dominated field, and we feel that MLK Day is a perfect day to take action.”

Eligibility for the Lform scholarship includes a commitment to pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in computer science or computer engineering. The student must also be enrolling or currently enrolled in an accredited four-year college or university or two-year college on track to transfer to a four-year school. The selection committee consists of the Lform team.

The deadline to apply is May 31 and the scholarship recipient will be announced five months from MLK Day on June 15.

“We hope that some financial aid in the form of our $1,000 scholarship will give a leg up to motivated young women and steer them down a path of success,” Loew said.
