According to the latest data of the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), the specialized cancer agency of the World Health Organization, the global numbers on childhood cancer increased over the last decades, with almost 300,000 new cases in 2016 – that's 820 new cases per day, being Leukemia the most common in children aged 15 years or less.
If we look at childhood cancer cases in the US, numbers are still shocking. Each year more than 15,000 children and young adults are diagnosed with any form of cancer.
Childhood cancer causes are still very unclear, however, it is known that it cannot be treated exactly the same as adult cancer. Current treatments are toxic to the children and often affect their development, this is why it is very important to study what causes childhood cancer to research for specialized treatments that will be less aggressive to kids.
There are many foundations across the States that put all their effort to raise funds to support pediatric oncology researchers and fund their investigations, as well as to help the kids and their families affected.
It is within this context that LANGRIA has teamed up with Children's Cancer Research Fund – a foundation that was born in Minnesota in 1979, and that has ever since, supported and funded the brightest and boldest minds in the field of pediatric oncology, in order to donate one of their best-selling items, the Glittering Flannel Mermaid Tail Blanket to the children battling cancer at the Minnesota Hospital.
Under the hashtag #LANGRIA4KIDS, the campaign's goal is to communicate one strong message: “PLAYFULNESS AND SMILES SHOULD NEVER BE TAKEN AWAY FROM CHILDREN”.
The brand invites people to join the donation campaign and collaborate to give back during this festive season so that kids can receive these blankets for Christmas. For every customer in the US purchasing 2 or more blankets until the campaign ends (December 12th), LANGRIA will donate one to every children up to a total of 50 blankets. Through this campaign, LANGRIA wants to remind people in The US, as well as worldwide, that we still have a long way to go to beat childhood cancer, and we should not give up.
