With more than 20 years of professional excellence in his field, Dr. Mejicano serves as a senior associate dean for Education at Oregon Health & Science University's School of Medicine, and as a professor in Division of Infectious Diseases. Since 2012, he has also worked as a professor of medicine for the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. During the course of his career, he has honed his expertise in competency-based medical education and outcomes assessment, and he has conducted research on how education can lead to improvements in medical practice.
Dr. Mejicano obtained a Master of Science in Engineering from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in 1986, an MD from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1990, and a second Master of Science from the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1996. Throughout his career, he has won a number of awards for his work in the field. In addition to winning the Alliant Energy Underkofler Excellence in Teaching Award through the University of Wisconsin System, he was also named to Dane County's Top Doctors by Madison Magazine in 2004 and 2006. He has also earned the Thomas G. Pearson Memorial Award through the Alliance for Continuing Medical Education in 2008 and 2009, and was named to Best Doctors in America by Best Doctors Inc. from 2007 until 2017.
