Hyunwoo Lee Recognized for Achievements in Automotive Research and Development


    HWASEONG, REPUBLIC OF KOREA, January 15, 2018 — Hyunwoo Lee, PhD, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

A principal researcher with the Korea Automobile Testing & Research Institute (KATRI), Dr. Lee is a widely regarded expert in fuel economy and emissions, as well as in vehicle interior air quality. In this position, he draws upon more than 20 years of experience in the automotive sector. He is credited with the development of several new processes for vehicle standards, including a new vehicle interior air quality measurement method and criteria, a fuel economy measure method for fuel cell vehicles, a greenhouse gas emission factor for vehicles in Korea, a new test method for automobile exhaust gas flowing into the vehicle cabin, and evaluation criteria for the road load coefficient.

Dr. Lee was initially inspired to pursue a career in automotive research due to his interest in environmental issues in the automotive sector. Upon receiving a Bachelor of Arts from Inha University in 1993, he joined the National Institute of Environmental Research. He later served with Dong Myeong Engineering Consultants & Architecture for a year before joining the Korea Automobile Testing & Research Institute in 1995. He has earned a Master of Arts from Inha University in 2002 and PhD from the Korea Institute of Technology and Education in 2014.

Throughout the course of his career, Dr. Lee has been recognized for his contributions to the field of automotive research and development. Most recently, he was selected to be the recipient of the KATRI Best Paper Award in 2016. He was previously awarded by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in 2012. He is a former member of the Korea Standard Technical Committee on Air Quality Management in New Vehicle Area, Gyeonggi-do Fire Investigation Committee and UN WP.29 GRPE WLTP IWG Korea Delegation. In addition, he is the former head of the UN WP29 GRPE Korea Delegation and UN WP29 GRPE VIAQ IWG Korea Delegation.
