Serving the Fort Collins area, as well as Larimer County and Northern Colorado, Mr. Gast boasts more than 36 years of experience practicing law. Acting as a director, officer, and shareholder of his firm, his fields of expertise include real estate, business, banking, and estate planning.
Mr. Gast received his undergraduate degree at Stanford University in 1978, and JD at the University of Colorado School of Law in 1981. While a law student, he was assistant editor of the University of Colorado Law Review and authored “People vs. Emmert: A Step Backward for Recreational Water Use in Colorado?” Admitted to the Colorado Bar Association and the U.S. District Court of Colorado in 1981, he then became an associate attorney with March, Myatt, Korb, Carroll & Brandes in Fort Collins, only to become a shareholder, officer, and director of March & Myatt Professional Corporation in 1985, where he remained for another 12 years. In 1998, he became a shareholder, officer, and director of Myatt, Brandes & Gast, PC.
Involved as a member of the American Bar Association, the Colorado Bar Association (CBA), where he was named an Outstanding Young Lawyer in 1987, and the Larimer County Bar Association, where he received the Larimer County Bar Association Professionalism Award in 2011, and was named a Outstanding Young Lawyer in 1987, Mr. Gast has held numerous roles with each of these organizations over the past 20 years. Currently the 2017-2018 president of the CBA, Mr. Gast's great-grandfather, Charles E. Gast, also once served as president of the association from 1898 to 1899, as well has his grandfather, Robert S. Gast, in 1923.
Serving his local community, Mr. Gast recently spent time on the board of trustees and on the finance and audit committee for the University of Northern Colorado, was on the board of directors, finance committee, and was committee chair for the Legacy Land Trust, and served on the board of directors and was the agency relations committee chair and board president of the Fort Collins Area United Way.
Mr. Gast has been in highlighted in The Best Lawyers in America numerous times, was named to Colorado Super Lawyers every year from 2012 to 2017, was named Best Lawyers' Lawyer of the Year in Real Estate Law for Northern Colorado for 2018, and has been cited in various editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law, and Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
