Since 2002 Talia’s, the number one glatt kosher restaurant in NYC’s Upper West Side, has been renowned for its prepaid Shabbat and holiday meals. During this significant holiday season, they will be open practically 24/7, serving four Passover Seders. They will also serve dinner and lunch during Yom Tov and Chol HaMoed so that guests will be able to relax over delicious, full-service meals without having to run themselves ragged at home.
“We’re supporting the Jewish community on the Upper West Side,” explains Ephraim Nagar, owner of Talia’s. “People travel from all over the world to see families and visit. If everyone is closed, where can they buy food?”
Talia’s will offer Seder dinners on Friday and Saturday in two shifts per night, one at 5:30 and one at 8:30. Families can conduct their own Seders at their table, or take part in a communal version. Manager Adam Nagar encourages people to experience a restful, no-stress Passover celebration with the people they love. He says their doors are open to all Jews, irrespective of religious backgrounds, incomes, or levels of conviction and practice.
“If you’re interested in discovering how the Passover tradition started, you’re welcome to take part,” he says, adding that the Seder celebrations at Talia’s cater both for groups and for people on their own.
Talia’s Seder feast consists of four courses. Guests can choose brisket, grilled rib-eye steak, Moroccan salmon, chicken marsala or lamb shanks, plus dessert. Each guest receives a full, traditional Seder plate with four cups of wine. There’s also a matzoh ball soup to suit all palates, and Talia’s kosher bar offers additional cocktails, martinis and wines. In addition, Talia’s features a full-service bar that is kosher for Passover.
To ensure all meals are prepared in accordance with kosher laws, the restaurant is run under strict rabbinic supervision. All holiday food is prepared in advance if it falls on Shabbat or Jewish holidays, and every meal is prepaid, to avoid the need for money to be exchanged. Hence advance reservations are essential, and no walk-ins are allowed. Two nights before Passover begins, a team will scrub down the entire restaurant to ensure not a speck of chametz (leaven) is left anywhere.
